I repaired my CM7001. I like it better than the PHD VRX I bought.
On the CM7001, changing the harddrive wasn't difficult. It  was finding the hidden catches.

The hard drive pn the CM7001 runs continuously { a good thing as it is ready to record with the unit off, and the TV guide stays populated}, so it only lasted a couple of years, I replaced it with an identical drive I got off of eBay, Just plugged in the new one and the machine remembered everything except the stored movies and had to repopulate the guide. The powered up hard drive makes the unit fast. I suppose if I were an engineer, I could replace the HD with a solid state one, but for $30 the HD replacement wasn't bad.
