GALAXY 19 12.084,00 MHz signal drops every day at night...

Hi,


I've been watching RTS serbia channel on fta for years now with no problems.  Since Jan 2016 all of a sudden things got weird.  The signal is fine only in early morning EST (6am-3-4pm) and then after 4pm the signal drops & the channel is unwatchable until the next morning.


Wednesday (March 16) was the first time the channel worked @ night for some reason & the signal quality was 75% (never that high before) but since then it is back to same problem.  I emailed RTS & they aren't aware of any problems.


I changed LNB, nothing happened.  I'm considering trying a new receiver., maybe new wire from roof to tv


 I dont get it.  Please help

if it helps-I noticed other channels r still working but not the channels on this particular transponder (12084)

Have you tried to do a slight re-pointing of your dish? Easiest way to check is to go to your dish when your are still getting a signal on the transponder and (without loosening the bolts) use the push/pull method vertically and horizontally to see whether the signal improves (and then loosen the bolts and make the correction).

As well, you can check several/many/all other transponders (mainly the weaker ones) both during the day and at night and see whether you are also getting SQ loss at night (but not enough to lose the signal, like you are getting on 12084). That again would point to needing to re-adjust the dish.

Also, when at the dish, you can also check whether the LNB is skewed correctly, sometimes a slight change in the skew will increase the SQ.

i will try to find signal when it drops, i havnt done that yet.


other channels still work at night, it's just this transponder loses SQ

Another thing you might want to check is your coax cable connectors and the coax cable itself.  With the receiver powered off, temporarily disconnect the coax at the LNBF and any other outdoor connection points such as barrel joiners (F81) or at the ground block and check inside the connector for any discoloration.  The foam surrounding the middle conductor inside the connector should be white so if you see it has changed to any other color such as brown, grey or black or if you see any rust then water was able to get inside the connector so it should be cut off and a new one put on.

If your outdoor connectors are clean then check the entire outdoor run of your RG6 coax cable for any cracks or other damage which would allow the water to get inside the cable.  Certain animals love to chew coax cable believe it or not so if you see any part of the PVC insulation which is damaged, that section of cable must be replaced.

Most people don't bother checking their coax as they believe that no channels would be working if their coax is bad.  However in many cases, a damaged coax cable will only impact certain frequencies and/or polarities at first and progressively get worse over time.

Hope this helps you find the cause of your issue.   Please post your findings here once you had a chance to try my and member Keith Brannen's suggestions.

i used to have a radar detector in my car that stayed powered on when the car was off.  the LO of the radar detector would get into the KU dish and mess up some channels.  my parking spot was about 60 feet away from the dish, and perpendicular to the dish.  Funny how the reception was only bad when I was home, if I was gone, the channels worked fine

i had someone come over yesterday when the signal was very weak.  He adjusted it & signal is now stronger than ever (80%)
